Simon Stone's future still in doubt

Still can't get anything right

Article after article has been written about Erik Ten Hag, yet Simon Stone is no closer to actually getting anything factually correct.

The context

After numerous false predictions during his first two seasons in charge, Simon's worst result came when he predicted ETH would most certainly be fired at the end of last season.

Commentators have labelled it "embarrassing", and "not good enough", for a reporting establishment the size of the BBC.

The most recent hammering came when he made numerous speculations about ETH being fired early in 2024 / 2025 the season, but this still has not happened.

The question everyone is asking, how much longer can he last making up stories before he loses his job?

The pressure is mounting

In a recent interview, Simon said that his articles are "improving", but it seems like they are simply based on the strategy of "a broken clock is correct twice a day".

Sure it's true, that if he daily writes a prediction that ETH will be fired, that eventually he will be correct, but is that level of journalism good enough to keep his job?

The BBC board of directors had a meeting last week, and we can only assume that they met specifically to discuss the future of Simon Stone's job.

He so far has the lowest accuracy in predicting Ten Hag's employment status of any journalist, and such a low position in the table this early into the season means that questions are being asked of his capability to perform the role.

Nobody at the BBC has made any public statement regarding whether he's currently under performance management, and while there is no actual proof his job is in question, we can only assume that in fact it is.  The lack of evidence would seem to actually make that MORE likely this is happening, in my opinion.

What happens next

There is currently not much happening in the football world, so ordinarily you would think that not many articles would be written about whether ETH is going to be sacked or not.

But clearly we won't have to wait long for another regurgitation of this story, even when no new developments have even happened.  The next 3-4 articles should be getting pumped out this week, and it remains to be seen if Simon Stone can actually include any verifiable facts, summon up a single unbiased opinion, or just generally report on any actual news.

One thing's for sure, we know that if he doesn't manage to do any of these things by the weekend, he will definitely be getting sacked.
